Defame’s shadow box series is a ongoing project involving taxidermy and illustration.
Eyes that See is a work that displays a Paratalaingo Distanti (cicada) as the main focal point. The cicada is known for it’s symbolism of transformation, resurrection, renewal, and spiritual realization. The skulls and tombstones represent the sacrifice of fleshly desires and the death of those desires. The two dots on the cicada (against the orange and black wing pattern) is to symbolize the jaguar– supernatural vision, foresight, and the ability to perceive hidden truths beyond surface reality. Lastly, the candle, symbolizing the ritual or spell is complete.
This wonderful piece can be displayed on the wall but if one is of the magickal arts it can be charged as a talisman on an alter. If this piece speaks to you recite “Jaguar Spirit aid me in my quest for self discipline and self discovery, be my guide on this winding journey to greater self”
Each piece is hand crafted.
